PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
Southern Automotive has been notified that Federal Prison Industries- UNICOR is conducting a hearing at 320 First Street, Washington D.C. 20534, on May 25th 1999, 1:00 pm.
The purpose of this meeting is to accept comments from affected and concerned companies and individuals, regarding UNICOR's plan to increase their market share of the electrical engine accessories industry. Electrical accessories are such items as starters, generators, regulators. Under the control of UNICOR our military machine will be forced to buy parts without competition or the highest quality, while the American taxpayer foots the bill.
Currently Unicor is also exploring a joint venture with a single government contractor. Allowing Unicor to expand their market penetration alone, or with the help of a private company will be disastrous.
Southern Automotive has decided to fight this invasion of the free market by Unicor, who uses prison labor that is paid about 25 cents per hour. After many years of experience in examining the quality of work this agency produces, we have decided to fight. This organization has carved a 500 million dollar piece of the American pie at the expense of numerous American companies. Southern Automotive believes that our men and women of the armed forces need reliable spare parts, provided by companies that have to meet specifications and standards for quality.
Examples of the outrageous advantages and un-american practices of this federal agency are available on our web site www.southernautomotive.com
